Political Career :
Joshi began his political career by being elected to the Legislative Council from the Shiv Sena. He became the mayor of Mumbai from 1976 to 1977 and from a Shivsena ticket he was elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1990. In 1995, when the Shivsena- Bhartiya Janata Party combine came to power, he became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. In 1999, Joshi won in the Central Mumbai General Elections and was promoted to the Lok Sabha, he was the speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2002 to 2004 during the National Democratic Alliance administration. On 26 March 2006, he was elected for a six-year term to the Rajya Sabha. NLC Bharat appointed Joshi as a key Patron in September 2022.
